A financial analyst is in charge for making industry, division and business recommendations by researching macroeconomic and microeconomic conditions along with company fundamentals. They are also involved in the responsibility to determine a company's current and predicted strength in order to take action, such as to buy or sell company's stocks.
If you are looking at a profession as a financial analyst and you are under graduate, it is best to take your courses in commerce, accounting, mathematics and money matters. Firms hire a lot of juniors having these backgrounds. Senior analysts are mostly hired after MBA from business school. Candidates who show promise in the field, many institutions arrange training programs for them. Organizations hire specialized financial analyst according to the field company is in. Investment banks, banks and insurance companies also hire financial analysts. In these businesses, their basic job is to look for stocks to add to an investment fund, through research. They also determine the fund's position in that stock should be sold by tracking the stocks that are in a fund's portfolio. It is very important that financial analyst remain very watchful while collecting information about the fundamentals of their balance sheet and information about macro economy. Lot of reading is also required to remain on top of financial news. They also need to attend a lot of conferences and also need to read financial journals. They are also required to learn formal presentation tools of spreadsheets, relational databases and statistical and graphics packages.
The junior analysts who are successful are ones who develop expertise in the use of database, PowerPoint presentations and spreadsheets, whereas senior analyst need to be excellent in interpersonal relationships with superiors and guiding other low-ranking analysts.
Career growth in this field is high; a junior analyst can normally be promoted to senior analyst position in three to four years. For a senior analyst, the chances of advancements are higher than a junior analyst. For senior analysts, there is the possibility to become higher-ranking management in bank or insurance company, portfolio manager, partner in investment bank, and to become investment advisor or financial consultant.
Career in a financial analyst has a potential to give good financial rewards as well as the satisfaction that you are a integral part of any business. Although it needs hard work, superior skills, 'can-do' spirit and consistency, you can easily excel in this field if you are good in finance, have good interpersonal skills and know good presentation techniques.
